[Kingdom Hearts] Afraid to Act [Axel/Roxas]
Title: Afraid to Act
Rating: PG
Pairings/Warnings: Double drabble (200 words), one-sided Akuroku, angsty angst
Disclaimer: The characters and the line I stole from KH2 obviously don’t belong to me. That’s why it’s called stealing.
Summary: Hesitate and you lose your dream.
A/N: So was replaying the game on proud mode, and when I hear that line Axel said about dreams, the first thing I think of is, duh, ROXAS! Don’t blame me. I needed something to tide me over while I work on this Zemyx fic that's driving me crazy.
If you’ve got a dream, don’t wait. Act.
Axel had a dream, not long ago. It was a simple goal, one with a very definite end point.
Roxas.
When number thirteen of the Organization spoke for the first time, Axel felt some small piece of himself get ripped away. Roxas had stolen every inch of Axel’s nonexistent heart. After that, it wasn’t long before the fire Nobody was completely lost. Lost to everything that Roxas said or did or thought. And with that loss, came a dream.
Axel’s dream to capture every bit of Roxas for himself.
His dream was never realized. Axel couldn’t follow his heart, because a Nobody had no heart to follow. Axel may not have been shy or modest, but lacking a heart, he became afraid. Afraid of disappointment and hate and loneliness, and all the things a strong heart shields you from.
Roxas soon slipped out of his reach forever. The hole in Axel’s psyche never filled back in.
Axel’s words on that beach that day came from the heart he never truly had, but had managed to lose.
If you’ve got a dream, don’t wait. Act. One of life’s little rules.
