computer update

just a quick post to yet you know what's up~ the computer people called and apparently it's too late to save my baby. the motherboard's fried or something? whatever that means. no one told me HOW it happened. I'll have to interrogate people later.
however supposedly the hard drive thingy can be saved, thank the lord! that's all I was hoping for, in all honesty.

but I guess this means I'll be shopping for a new laptop. ;3; any suggestions? I hope my parents don't wait until like, back-to-school sales start or anything, I might just die.

anyway, guess this means my hiatus is still on. I read an entire book on Saturday. it was insane. we watched three movies yesterday too. ALL THIS FREE TIME WTF. xD

Ooh, motherboard failure. That's what took out my desktop last time. Mine was caused by a bad power source -the thing blew up and took half my hardware with it. Lucky that your hard drive is safe though. Really sucks when those blow up.

As for getting a new laptop, you might want to start with any 2008 models the stores still have - they'll usually have a few really good laptops that no one wants anymore just because they're a few months outdated so they drop the prices. Sony's VAIOs are pretty and shiny and amazing if not a little expensive but they're so niiice and they have some really awesome media laptops. And if a VAIO is too expensive, you might want to look into getting an Acer. It's one of the cheaper brands, and they're really good computers - I've got an Acer Aspire and I absolutely love it.

Hope that helps~

Do NOT get a Gateway. Mine was one of the more expensive Gateways and still crapped out as soon as the one year warranty was up. I spent over $100 trying to fix the screen and it still doesn't work.

I had a lot of luck with Dell. My old Dell survived four years of college and one flood. I'm sure it would've been great after the four years, but the university said they wanted their laptops back.

Oh wow. That sucks. :/

Um. I don't suggest getting an Acer. xD; I have one and it really sucks. Some of my friends have had bad experiences with them, too.

I'd go for either a Dell or a VAIO.

I second not getting an Acer. I had one for about a year and a half before it just stopped working. Plus, the thing constantly overheated if it was on for longer than a half hour :-\

My dad has had a Toshiba for 5+ years. The only reason he replaced it was because it was outdated. My Acer was replaced with a Toshiba and it's worked wonderfully, so that would be my suggestion.

Chris's IBM is still alive and kickin' from like, 10 years ago, but they're so not pretty...

Caitlin's Asus is pretty bitchin'.

get a mac
but really, I've no fucking clue what kind of computer you should get.

BUT.
Maybe you can use this newfound free time and like, play all those games you have, right? Aha.

At least your hard drive is safe. ;__;

As for what kind to buy... hmm. I have a Dell and although it works just fine, it's really annoying sometimes because Dell pretty much makes you buy Dell-only products (otherwise they can be incompatible/buggy on the system) and they jack up the prices something fierce. So dude I wouldn't get a Dell.

/all the wise advice I have

Guh, that sucks big time. >.> Glad to hear your hard drive's safe though! That's the most important part after all.

Uhh, as for what to get... I don't really have any recommendations. It depends on what kind of features and specs you want. I use an Asus laptop and it's pretty okay; I've had it for two years now and still no major problems. Vaio seems nice too. I hope you find one that suits your needs! :3
