Title: Mission Incomplete
Characters: Xemnas, Roxas

Prompt: 01. “Other Side of the World”
Summary: Xemnas inquires as to why Roxas’s first mission didn’t go too well.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Kingdom Hearts. Fair enough.
A/N: Seriously though. Roxas, in Wonderland? Poor kid’d go crazy.
“You’re not going to give me a lecture, are you?”
Xemnas glanced down at the newest recruit of the Organization. The boy’s expression was distinctly blank. “Why, would you like one?”
“No.” Roxas shrugged a shoulder. “I was checking if Axel actually ever tells the truth.”
“And the conclusion?”
“He doesn’t.”
Xemnas stored away this piece of information for later use. “Well, I won’t lecture you, but I will inform you that if you expect to remain with us, you will have to be more careful in your missions.”
Roxas snorted, a slight smirk on his face as he turned away from Xemnas. “You can’t get rid of me — I’m important.”
“And who told you that?” Xemnas inquired, raising an eyebrow.
“…Axel.” The smirk disappeared.
“Mm.”
Roxas stopped walking, now just staring expressionlessly at the white and gray wall.
“Something the matter?”
“I…no.” Roxas shook his head. “It won’t happen again. The botched mission, I mean.”
“Indeed. We can’t have someone wasting their time going to fetch you from worlds away on ever occasion. Would you care to explain what happened on this one that delayed you so?”
If it were possible, Roxas appeared to be a little embarrassed. “…There was this cat. Kept pointing me in the wrong direction.” Xemnas remained silent, so he went on. “Everyone there was very unhelpful, actually. The Dodo, the flowers, the Hare and Hatter…. It was an absolutely ridiculous world.”
“Really. I shall have to send one of the others to take a look at it, then,” Xemnas said simply, unsympathetic to Roxas’s plight there. (But really, had anyone expected differently?)
Roxas shrugged again. “If you want. But there’s nothing there except…nonsense, really.”
Xemnas looked down at Roxas once more, blank expression meeting equally blank expression. “Nevertheless, it won’t hurt to put the mission in more…capable hands.”
Scowling, Roxas merely followed the Superior through the empty hallways. He had to improve — and quickly.
(He also had to get revenge on that silly pink cat, but that’s a story for another time.)

because (to me) it's like Roxas being like "Pfffffff, I can do whatever I want, I'm important!" and Xemnas needing to take him down a peg because, while having a Keyblade-wielding Nobody is very, very good, having a Keyblade-wielding Nobody who thinks he can do whatever the heck he wants might prove annoying/unpleasant in the long run.
lol @ the last line. Poor Roxas. He never stood a chance against the Cheshire Cat!
