[Kingdom Hearts] Fear [3/4]
(3/4)
Title: Fear
Rating: G
Warnings: None.
Disclaimer: Kingdom Hearts is, most obviously, owned by big name companies and not by a girl sitting at a laptop on her bedroom floor.
Summary: In which Xaldin has a chat with Vexen about his experiments.
A/N: ....Where is the funny? Bah. Vexen why are you so hard to make interact with Xaldin? *glare*
Uh oh. These are getting shorter again.
To study the workings of the heart is to delve deeper into life than a person is supposed to go. It leads to unfortunate occurrences and even more mysteries to unlock. Once in, it is hard to get out.
“Look, Vexen, I know I owe you a favor. However, I did not promise to go wander through a jungle to find one invisible Heartless for you to play around with.”
Vexen looked over at Xaldin, gaze cool. “It’s not ‘playing around,’ as you should very well know.”
“You’ve moved on from hearts, haven’t you?” Xaldin responded, more of a statement than a question. “Memories, emotions, you’re moving away from Even’s research.”
“What do you expect me to do, continue to look at failed experiments?” Vexen shot back, looking irritated. “There’s so much more to explain—”
“And have you explained anything?”
The Chilly Academic narrowed his eyes at the other Nobody. “Xaldin, I know Dilan didn’t quite approve of Even’s work, but the two of them don’t exist anymore. What are you afraid of?”
“You know fear is not an option,” Xaldin answered, nicely avoiding the question. “But I think I know what you fear, were it possible.”
The tension in the air was nearly tangible. When Vexen didn’t answer, Xaldin went on,
“You fear never getting back your heart. We all do.”
Vexen stood up abruptly, shaking his head. “Don’t be ridiculous. I wouldn’t be able to do half of my experiments if I had a heart. I’m content as it is.”
Xaldin smiled, saying nothing more. It would be pointless to continue in that direction anyway. If Vexen thought he was content, then it would do no good to make him admit the truth.
“Now then, Vexen, about that invisible Heartless....”

I rather like both these two gentlemen, and any interaction between them is bound to be interesting. ^____^
Obsessive and just a little bit too curious; that's the Vexen we know and love. &heart;

Very good! I love the references to the scientists, and Vexen's lack of morals without a heart.
